Capital One is First Company to Enable Customers to Get Recent Account Spending History for Thousands of Popular Merchants with Amazon’s Alexa
Capital One® and Amazon® today announced another first for the Amazon Alexa virtual assistant: a new feature called “How much did I spend?”
Using any Amazon Alexa-enabled device, like the Amazon Echo, Tap, Echo Dot and Amazon Fire, Capital One customers now have a convenient, easy way to access their recent spending history at more than 2,000 popular merchants such as Starbucks®, Whole Foods® and Amazon.
Customers who have enabled the Capital One skill can now ask Alexa about their spending for the past six months--by day, month, or a specific date range--through questions posed in natural language such as:
Q: Alexa, ask Capital One, how much did I spend last weekend?
· A: Between October 15th and October 16th, you spent a total of $90.25 on your Venture Card.
Q: Alexa, ask Capital One, how much did I spend at Whole Foods yesterday?
· A: On Tuesday October 18th, you spent a total of $88.00 at Whole Foods Market on your Venture Card.
Q: Alexa, ask Capital One, how much did I spend at Starbucks last month?
· A: Between September 1st and September 30th, you spent a total of $43.00 at Starbucks on your Quicksilver Card.
Q: Alexa, ask Capital One, how much did I spend at Amazon between September 1 and September 15?
· A: Between September 1st and September 15th, you spent a total of $163.00 at Amazon on your Quicksilver Card.
“Particularly as we head into the busy holiday shopping season, we know our customers are looking for straightforward, easy ways to keep track of when and where they’re spending the most,” said Steph Hay, Head of Content Strategy and AI Design at Capital One, who announced the news with a team of Capital One women engineers and designers at the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing this week. “Our goal in developing the Alexa skill is to design for real-life conversations about money. We want customers to speak naturally and feel confident we’ve got their back every time, wherever they are in life.”

This past March, with the launch of the Capital One skill for Alexa, Capital One became the first company to allow customers to manage their credit card and bank accounts through Alexa. Since then, the company has released several new updates – including the ability for customers to manage their home and auto loans on the platform.
Capital One customers with an Alexa-enabled device can enable the skill in the Alexa app on iOS and Android (or at alexa.amazon.com), and then link their Capital One accounts using their Capital One username and password.
