Advertising and Corporate Sponsorships
Capital One in commercials and college athletics:
Capital One introduced its brand campaign in 2000 to generate consumer awareness of the Capital One name. The “What's in Your Wallet?” campaign took us from "Capital Who? to a household name almost overnight, achieving near universal awareness levels (99%) within three years of launch.
We always use an integrated advertising approach to ensure the Capital One name is omnipresent, leveraging broadcast, print, direct mail, online marketing, social media engagement and strategic sponsorships.
Capital One is an official Corporate Champion of the NCAA®. We’re committed to student-athletes, both on and off the field, and all the NCAA fans who make college sports so special. Capital One began its affiliation with college sports with the sponsorship of the Capital One Bowl (formerly the Florida Citrus Bowl) in 2001. In 2014, Capital One became an official sponsor of the Capital One Orange Bowl and the new College Football Playoff.
The Capital One Cup was launched in 2011 and is awarded annually to each of the best men's and women's Division I college athletics programs in the country. Capital One awards a combined $400,000 in student-athlete scholarships and the Capital One Cup trophy to the winning schools at the ESPY awards in July.
Since 2002, the Capital One Mascot Challenge has celebrated the unsung heroes of college football—the mascots! The Capital One Mascot Challenge is a contest where fans vote for their favorite college mascots…it’s that simple. All 16 participants receive $5,000 towards their school mascot program and the winning school receives an additional $15,000.
